The College Board announced some radical changes to the SAT on Wednesday. Starting in 2016, the college entrance exam will take on a whole new format that is aimed at making the test more practical and fair. Here are the big changes:

1. Students must use evidence in their answers
In the past, students would select answers from multiple choices to demonstrate their understanding of the text. Now, students will be asked to support their answer with evidence and to cite specific passages.

2. Vocabulary will be more practical
The old SAT vocabulary wasn`t particulary useful in day-to-day life(except to impress your friends), New vocabulary will focus on words students will likely encounter in college and the workplace.

3. Math section will cover fewer topics
The old math section had only a few questions for each topic (algebra, geometry, etc.). The new math section will focus on fewer math topics that students must know more in depth,

4. Calculators will be banned from portions of the math section
The new no-calculator portion of the test is designed to assess studets` understanding of the mathematical concepts, rather than their ability to "plug and chug"

5. Widely-read founding documents an speeches will be included
The old test asked questions about passages few students had seen before. The new test will include a passage drawn from documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the Gettysburg Address and Martin Luther King Jr`s"I Have a Dream" speech.

6. Students will not be penalized for incorrect answers
Students used to get a 1/4 point deduction for incorrect answers but no points deducted for skipped answers. New "rights-only" scoring will not penalize students for incorrect answers. Test-takers are thus encouraged to answer every question.

7. Students can choose whether or not to write an essay
Here`s the big one : the essay used to be required. Now it`s optional.

8. Smaller scores
The old test was out of 2400. The new test will be out of 1600.

9. Digital SATs will be available

The SAT used to be available in paper only. Beginning in 2016, the new exam will offered both in print and digitally.

1) SAT Subject Test의 특징

① 과목별 지식을 측정하는 시험이다.
SAT II는 SAT I과는 달리 학교에서 배우는 학과목 중에서 특정 과목을 선정해 이에 대한 지식과 기술을 평가하는 시험이다.

② 총 20과목으로 학교마다 성적을 요구하는 과목이 다르다.
SAT II 성적의 경우 요구하지 않는 학교도 있고 또 학교마다 성적을 요구하는 과목이 다르므로, 희망 대학에 문의한 후 과목을 선택해야 한다. 대부분의 명문대학에서는 영작문, 수학, 그리고 추가 1과목으로 추가 3과목에 대한 시험을 치를 것을 요구한다.

2)인터넷 접수
시험를 주간하는 College Board 사이트에서 인터넷 접수가 가능하다. College Board 사이트에 회원가입한 후, SAT online registration으로 들어가 지시사항에 따라 인적 사항을 비롯한 내용을 정확하게 입력하면 되고, 응시료는 VISA나 Master, American Express 등으로 결제할 수 있다.

3) 우편접수
우편접수를 하려면 SAT 등록 신청서(SAT Program Registration Bulletin)를 작성해 미국의 SAT College Board로 송부하면 된다.

4) 전화/Fax 접수
SAT Program Registration Bulletin을 이용하여 SAT College Board로 팩스 전송하면 되지만, 한국에서는 전화/Fax 등록이 불가능하다.

- 등록 취소 시 시험 등록비용을 환급받지 못한다.
- 변경비용 : US $22

1) 등록취소
SAT 시험은 등록 후 취소가 되지 않으며 시험을 응시하지 않은 경우에도 환급을 받지 못한다.

2) 날짜변경
날짜 변경은 미국 Customer Service에 전화하여 신청해야 하며, 해당 날짜에 빈 자리가 있는 경우에 한해 가능하다.

1) 성적확인
점수는 시험 후 보통 4~6주 후에 통보되며, 전화와 인터넷으로 확인이 가능하다.

- 전화 확인 : 통화료 외 US $12.50 추가/Customer Service : 1-609-771-7600
- 인터넷확인 : College Board의 View and Send Scores에서 확인한다.
로그인 후 My SAT에 가면 지난 SAT 점수들도 확인이 가능하다.

2) 성적취소
시험 성적을 취소할 때는 특정 section만을 취소하는 것이 아니라 모든 section을 취소하는 것이다.

- 시험장에서 취소 : 감독관에게 취소 신청서를 요청해 작성하고 제출하면 된다.
- 시험을 치른 루 취소 : 시험일로부터 다음 수요일이 되기 전까지 우편이나 팩스로 취소 신청하면 된다.

- 리포팅이란? College Board에 요청하여 SAT 성적표를 지원하려는 학교로 발송하는 과정을 리포팅이라고 한다. 이전에는 모든 SAT성적이 누적되어 보내어졌지만 2009년 3월부터는 자신이 원하는 성적을 선택하여 리포팅 신청 할 수 있다.
- 당일 리포팅 : 시험 응시일 당일에 신청, 4개 학교까지 무료
- 추가 리포팅 : 점수 확인후 리포팅, 한학교 당 US $9.5

1) 당일 리포팅
시험당일 신청한 4개까지 기관은 무료로 리포팅이 가능하여 시험 후 9일 이후에는 리포팅할 기관에 대한 변경, 추가, 철회를 할 수 있다.

1) 추가 리포팅
시험 후 9일 이후 신청 혹은 4건 이상 리포팅시 추가 비용 건당 US $9.5, 빠른 리포팅을 원할 경우 서비스 비용 US $27을 지불해야 한다.

① 인터넷(건당 US$9.5)

Step 1 http://www.collegeboard.com/splash에 로그인 한다.(사이트에 가입하지 않은 경우에는 가입부터한다.)
Step 2 Scores page로 들어가서 "View and Send Scores"를 틀릭한다.
Step 3 "Send Available Scores"를 클릭한다.
Step 4 성적을 보내고자 하는 학교를 이름, 코드, 주 등으로 검색한다.
Step 5 추가 리포팅 비용을 카드로 결제한다.(Visa, Master, American Express or Discover Card)
Step 6 입력사항을 확인하고 확인 페이지(Confirmation page)

② 전화(서비스 비용 US $10)
추가 점수 리포팅 신청서(Additional Score Report Order Form)를 다운 받아 각 항목을 작성후에 리포팅 비율을 동봉(check 등 이용)하여 보낸다.

① 입실
시험이 오전 8시 15분에 시작되므로 7시 45분~ 8시 사이에 시험장에 도착해야한다

② 시험
개정된 SAT Registration Test는 총 3시간 45분(쉬는 시간 포함)동안 치러져 오후 12시 30분정도에 끝난다. 시험 중간에 있는 후식 시간에는 가져간 음료나 스낵을 먹을 수 있으며, 연습용 종이나 사전, 노트, 자, 형관펜 등은 시험장에 가지고 들어갈 수 없다. SAT Subject Test의 경우 하루에 3개의 과목까지 동시에 치를 수 있으며, 2개 이상의 과목에 응시하는 경우 모든 테스트가 끝난 후에야만 시험장을 나갈 수 있다.
